Scoliosis
What it is:
To understand scoliosis, it is important to first understand the make-up of the spine. Everyone’s spine has a natural curve that rounds our shoulders and makes our lower back curve inward. When looked at head-on, though, the spine should lie in a straight line.
However, some people’s spines also curve side-to-side, making their spine look more like an “S” or “C.” This condition is called scoliosis.
Scoliosis is a manageable condition, but should be monitored as severe cases of scoliosis can cause back pain, deformity and even difficulty breathing. These severe cases of scoliosis sometimes require scoliosis surgery, although other scoliosis treatment options are often effective.
