1 How big of a problem is back pain?

Back pain is a serious concern. Consider these facts:

  1. Low back pain is the leading cause of disability in people over the age of 45.
  2. Low back pain is the second most common reason people visit their doctor.
  3. Low back pain is the second most common reason people miss work.
  4. About 15 percent of Americans are experiencing low back pain right now.
  5. It is estimated that 85 percent of us will experience low back pain at some point in our lives.

This pain is often a symptom of a more serious condition. So if you experience back pain, get a chiropractic examination. Understanding the problem is the first step toward fixing it – and avoiding a more serious problem in the future.

3- How can the DRS System help with my low back pain?

The Decompression Reduction Stabilization (DRS) System removes pressure from the discs and joints in your lower back, through a safe and effective distraction and decompression process.

4- What benefits will I receive from DRS treatment?

You may see many benefits from DRS treatment, including:

  1. Significantly reduced low back pain
  2. Decreased leg pain or numbness
  3. Improved daily function, like sitting, lifting, walking, bending and traveling
  4. Improved range of motion
  5. Shrinkage of disc herniations
  6. Distraction of worn-out joints or discs
Plus, most insurance companies cover DRS treatment and, unlike surgery, there is no recovery period.

5- What can I expect during my DRS treatment?

Our unique DRS treatment includes four phases – DRS therapy, home exercises, chiropractic care and physical rehabilitation.

  1. DRS therapy. During each 38 – 40-minute DRS session, you’ll lay back on the treatment bed under a relaxing, blue light. The decompression treatment is fully monitored by a technician. The process is so safe, painless and relaxing that many patients actually fall asleep during treatment. Most patients have 20 to 25 sessions over a five – six week period.
  2. Home exercises. During the DRS phase, you’ll also be given mobilization and strengthening exercises to do at home.
  3. Chiropractic and rehabilitation. Following the DRS phase, you’ll receive chiropractic care and physical rehabilitation, to maintain the benefits of DRS and to prevent future injury.

6- How was the DRS System developed?

The DRS System was developed after many years of careful research and by renowned neurosurgeon and researcher, C. Norman Shealy, M.D., Ph.D., F.A.C.S.

A national leader in pain management, Dr. Shealy is the founder of the Shealy Institute (link to their Web site) in Springfield, Mo., which has been described as the most efficient, cost-effective pain management facility in the world.

Better Health Pain and Wellness Centers introduced the DRS System to Alaska in 2000 because we are committed to providing safe, effective, non-surgical low back pain treatment to Alaskans.

7- Is the DRS System safe?

The DRS System has been the subject of numerous research studies, and has been found to be a safe and highly effective low back pain treatment option. The DRS System is also approved by the FDA.

8- How do you know the DRS System works?

The DRS System has been the subject of numerous research studies, which have found the treatment to be safe and effective. Specifically, studies have shown:

  1. The DRS System has a 70 – 86 percent success rate.
  2. More than 90 percent of patients who complete DRS therapy, chiropractic care and physical rehabilitation improve “significantly.”
  3. Most patients see an improvement of at least 50 percent in their pain and daily function.
  4. After completing DRS treatment, most patients’ pain is reduced 75 – 90 percent.

Here at Better Health Pain and Wellness Centers, we’ve treated nearly 1,000 Alaskans with the DRS System – and seen plenty of our own success stories.

9- How is DRS different from other treatments, like VAX-D?

The DRS System is the first FDA-approved decompression system where the patient is positioned on his or her back. Older decompression systems required the patient to lay face-down and hold on to a bar located above their head. These systems were flawed, because it put the patients’ backs into further extension. Also, these systems were unable to treat specific discs.

10- I have a problem with a specific disc, and I don’t want a “general treatment.” Can DRS help me?

The DRS System treatment can target and treat specific discs in your low back.
